COLLEGE PLANNING AND GUIDANCE
It is never too early to begin planning for college. It should be understood that colleges and universities have different entrance requirements. Therefore, the student should be familiar with the requirements of the college or university that is being considered when selecting the courses to be taken at La Salle. It is the responsibility of each student to become familiar with the number of academic credits required in addition to the following: cumulative grade point average, difficulty of subject taken, class rank, SAT or ACT scores, and letters of recommendation. This information is all available in the Guidance Office through the use of the College Handbook and individual college catalogues. Information on college requirements, applications and scholarships are available on the computers in the Guidance Office, as well as the school website. In addition, the student should write letters to the colleges and universities for their own catalogues. The college advisor will schedule individual college planning sessions with each student beginning in March of their junior year. Parents are urged to attend.
Throughout the year, the Guidance Office provides workshops for parents and students on topics such as financial aid, and the college application process. Participation in these informative sessions can make the planning process easier. In the Fall, many college representatives visit La Salle to discuss the school’s programs with students. The Guidance Office will provide students with permits to attend these meetings. Written statements from both parents and students are requested and kept on file in the Guidance office to provide the faculty with information for recommendation letters. It is imperative that all information be provided in a timely manner.
